This book covers a considerable piece of Spokane's history as McGoldrick Lumber was the most significant sawmill operation in Spokane, situated on the north bank of the Spokane River adjacent to Gonzaga University. The company, which also had large timber holdings and logging operations throughout the Inland Northwest, was an economic mainstay and Spokane's largest employer for 40 years.
The author, James P. "Jim" McGoldrick II (1916-2012), the grandson and namesake of the company's founder, was well-qualified to have written this book. He had a great deal of exposure to the company as a boy, worked for it as a young man, and years later had a hand in the company's final dissolution. He was also the author of Spokane Aviation. His legacy lives on in the content of these two books, as he wrote from personal firsthand experience.
